Dominique Drakeford and Whitney McGuire of Sustainable Brooklyn work to bridge gaps between the sustainability movement and targeted communities. With a focus on fashion, agriculture, and wellness, they reclaim sustainability by educating from an African Diasporan lens via various, intentional modalities. They are committed to fashionably fostering the evolution of sustainability.

Dominique and Whitney led The Summer School program in collaboration with Start:Empowerment (S:E), a BIPOC-led social and environmental justice education non-profit working with youth, educators, activists, and community members to infuse justice-focused education and programming in schools and community spaces.

The Summer School: Redefining Justice in the Climate Movement

The Summer School: Redefining Justice in the Climate Movement is a virtual intergenerational foundational course made to empower, inspire, inform, and support current and aspiring environmental justice community leaders.

Curated by BIPOC organizers, activists, and leaders with over 30+ years of experience in their fields, students are empowered to make more intentional and effective actions to support the environmental justice movement and gain an understanding of how this is relevant to their communities and daily lives.

PROGRAM IMPACT

The Summer School: Redefining Justice in the Climate Movement provides in-depth learning and a quality curriculum to train the next generation of leaders to ensure a sustainable, liberated, and equitable future for all.
